French government concessions to students 'tactically shrewd' but risk creating new set of problems

Oliver Farry welcomes Oliver Davis, Professor and Head of the Department of French at University College Cork. According to Professor Davis, the government's handling of the student protests reflects a combination of "tactical confusion" and an inadequate response to deeper structural problems. Davis cautions the concessions offered to secondary school students merely "scratch the surface." Meanwhile, France's widening protest movement has extended well beyond the classroom, drawing in the Yellow Vests, trade unions and people from across French society, amid mounting frustrations over public services and the rising cost of living. #France #Students #Protests 🔔 Subscribe to France 24 now: https://f24.my/YTen 🔴 LIVE - Watch FRANCE 24 English 24/7 here: https://f24.my/YTliveEN 🌍 Read the latest International News and Top Stories: https://www.france24.com/en/ Like us on Facebook: https://f24.my/FBen Follow us on X: https://f24.my/Xen Bluesky: https://f24.my/BSen and Threads: https://f24.my/THen Browse the news in pictures on Instagram: https://f24.my/IGen Discover our TikTok videos: https://f24.my/TKen Get the latest top stories on Telegram: https://f24.my/TGen
