“Sentimental Value” clip: Rachel and Nora

In Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value,” best supporting actress Oscar nominee Elle Fanning plays Rachel Kemp, a Hollywood actress who is wooed by a Danish filmmaker, Gustav, to star in his latest project – only after his own actress-daughter, Nora, has rejected him. The script is a deeply personal one, and Kemp fInds herself struggling with the emotional depths of the role – a character based on Gustav’s suicidal mother. In this scene, Kemp has sought out Nora (best actress Oscar nominee Renate Reinsve) for advice on how to play the character. Nora tries to separate the director from the man she knows too well. "Sentimental Value,” a Neon release, is nominated for nine Academy Awards, including best picture and best international feature film.
